Batard Workshop with Cari Ferraro
Cari Ferraro – writer, calligrapher, bookmaker and teacher. Her instructional book, Beginner’s Guide: Calligraphy and Illumination was published in 2007. She fulfills design commissions through her business, Prose and Letters.
Batarde is the running bookhand of the late Middle Ages. This fluent style developed in France and is a cursive version of the more upright blackletter styles. Batarde is an especially lovely hand which lends itself to rich and emphatic treatments, or a fine calligraphic texture on the page. This class is for beginners to learn a new hand and for experienced calligraphers to finesse their skill in a contemplative and creative atmosphere.
