Calligraphy in Blossom with Marina Soria
Soria says: “If we begin with letters, the result is pretty well known, but if we move to explore shapes found in nature, then we are faced with a whole new set of possibilities.” Using the Japanese brush and the cola pen, we will explore the possible strokes these tools can give us. We will study basic shapes of simple flowers in order to represent them in a few strokes as in the sumi-e tradition. We will create a blossoming alphabet with various configurations for one character in order to explore various graphic and design solutions. Then, working in sumi and also in color, we will create a concertina book in which the natural reverberations of our alphabet have priority over legibility.
