From There to Here and Beyond— The Development of a Calligrapher
Whether you are new to the creative beauty of calligraphy, or have been taking classes for years, we all reach a point of wondering, “What do I do with the skills I’ve learned?” Or perhaps a more burning question, “Where do I go from here?” Answering these questions for myself has been a continuing, eye-opening journey, and one I hope to encourage you in by sharing my own development—from high school calligraphy on butcher paper, to client commissions, teaching, and everything calligraphic in between.

We’ll also make time for a small project…please bring the following:
Scissors
Glue stick
Pencil
Ruler
5 photocopies of practice lettering that covers a page (1/4” x-height or smaller is best), cut to the following dimensions:
Two copies measuring 8” x 8”
One copy measuring 8 1/8” x 3 ½”
Two copies measuring 8 ½” x 11”

$2 supply fee

More about Christy: Walking into a calligraphy class at my local college in 1990, I didn’t realize that, not only would I be learning a new skill, but stepping in to my future passion and work. I have had the pleasure of sharing my knowledge and experience with others, teaching beginner lettering courses since 2002.  My students inspire, challenge, and push me continually to see letters in new ways.  Sharing this journey is my greatest privilege.  In 2010 I took a leap, quitting my job and launching my calligraphy business and website, Pilgrim’s Quill Studio.   I have been honored to work with a number of talented invitation designers and event coordinators, and private clients who allow me to creatively shape their ideas. The world of calligraphy has placed me on a path that ties me to an ancient lineage of scribes both familiar and humbling, and spurs me forward in an effort to sustain a place in the future for this beautiful art form.  My goal is to place a mark of beauty in the world and doing the best I can with the gift I’ve been given.
